| The founding vision
of Sudarshanaloka was to create conditions for the unfolding of human
potential through the timeless and universal teachings of the Buddha;
a place where meditation,
reflection, Buddhist
study, and a reverence for the living world could be explored
and lived. To this end we are constructing a full-facility, multi-purpose
retreat complex high in the Coromandel hills overlooking the Firth
of Thames - Tikapa Moana.
With a capacity for up to 50 residents (including a limited mobility
suite), a library and devotional spaces, this challenging, progressive
and exciting project will provide a new and unique concept of growth
and diversity not only for the local community but for the people
of New Zealand and beyond.
As well as a Buddhist retreat facility, the Centre will be available
for other community groups, corporations and agencies to run seminars
and retreats, or a wide range of socially valuable programmes.
The Retreat Centre site provides breathtaking scenery and peaceful
rural facilities for:
- the teaching and practice of meditation
- the study of Buddhist principles and ethics
- the care and protection of our environment
- creative renewal through periods of withdrawal from worldly
routines
The first phase of the building is almost complete, but fundraising
continues and we would welcome your donation. If you would like
to be part of this exciting project, or would simply like more information
we would love to hear from you at fundraising at sudarshanaloka dot org
or phone (64) 7 868 5341.
